Dr. Baltasar Garcia is a geneticist specializing in aquaculture breeding programs, combining a strong academic foundation with broad experience in leading and optimizing selective breeding initiatives. He earned his Ph.D. in Genetics and Animal Breeding from São Paulo State University (UNESP), Brazil, where his research focused on the application of genomic tools to selection programs. He is actively involved in the development and implementation of genomic selection strategies aimed at increasing productivity, improving product quality, and strengthening sustainability in aquaculture operations. His expertise integrates advanced data analysis, quantitative genetics, and genomic technologies to support strategic decision-making, accelerate genetic gain, and enhance the competitiveness of aquaculture breeding programs in international markets.

Social anthropologist and holds a Master’s degree in Environment from the University of Melbourne. She has more than ten years of experience in marine and coastal governance and planning, facilitating participatory processes aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of marine ecosystems. She currently serves as National Coordinator of the GEF Marine Coastal Governance Project in Chile, implemented by FAO together with the Ministry of Environment, the Undersecretariat for Fisheries and Aquaculture, and SERNAPESCA, where she leads initiatives to strengthen coastal governance, marine spatial planning, and the development of a sustainable blue economy.
