Manuela Erazo is a social anthropologist and holds a Master’s degree in Environment from the University of Melbourne. Throughout her professional career she has developed extensive experience in marine and coastal governance and planning, with a strong focus on the intersection between public policy, coastal communities, and the sustainability of marine ecosystems. For more than a decade she has worked facilitating participatory and multi-stakeholder processes aimed at advancing ocean conservation and the sustainable use of coastal and marine resources. Her work has contributed to the development of planning and management tools that integrate social, environmental, and productive dimensions in coastal territories. She currently serves as National Coordinator of the GEF Marine Coastal Governance Project in Chile, an initiative implemented by FAO in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the Undersecretariat for Fisheries and Aquaculture, and SERNAPESCA. In this role, she leads efforts to strengthen coastal governance, advance marine spatial planning, and promote development approaches aligned with a sustainable blue economy.

She has held senior legal positions within Chile’s fisheries and aquaculture institutions, including Head of the Legal Division at the Undersecretariat for Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) and Deputy Legal Director at the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca). She has actively contributed to the drafting and implementation of fisheries and aquaculture legislation and has represented Chile in national and international forums.
