Applied microbiologist and technology leader with a strong track record in scientific research, innovation, and business development in the field of rapid microbiological detection. Holding a PhD from the University of Copenhagen and international academic experience at Oregon State University, he has successfully combined scientific rigor with entrepreneurial vision to bring laboratory technologies to the global market. As Co-Founder & CEO of Mycometer A/S and currently CEO of BactiQuant A/S, he has led the development of patented methods for the rapid quantification of microorganisms in potable water systems and indoor environments, with technologies verified by the US-EPA. His developments include internationally recognized trademarks such as Mycometer®-test and Bactiquant®-water, positioned within the global microbial monitoring market. His research has focused on applied enzymatics, microbial monitoring, fungal-bacterial interactions, terrestrial mineralization processes, and the impact of climate change on microbial function. He has authored 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications, holds three patents in rapid microbiological detection and nitrogen mineralization, and has delivered multiple invited presentations at international scientific conferences. Recognized as a “Talented Young Researcher” by the Danish Technical-Scientific Research Agency, his profile combines executive leadership, scientific excellence, and technological innovation with regulatory and environmental impact.

Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Aquaculture from the University of Stirling (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland), a Diploma in Financial Aquaculture from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM), Mexico, and a B.Sc. in Oceanography from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), Mexico. Since joining the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 1996, he has led sustainable aquaculture development initiatives in more than 45 countries. He currently serves as Fisheries and Aquaculture Officer at the FAO Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, based in Santiago, Chile, where he promotes innovative policies and solutions to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of the sector in the region.

Dr. Tomás Pérez-Acle, PhD, is a computational biologist whose research focuses on the development of computational models to study complex biological phenomena through interdisciplinary approaches integrating biology, mathematics, physics, and chemistry. He has published nearly 70 Q1-indexed scientific articles, book chapters, and patent applications in areas such as computer-aided drug design, nanotechnology, and robotics. He currently serves as Full Professor and Vice-Rector for Research and Doctoral Studies at Universidad San Sebastián.
