The Salmon Council, headed by its executive president, Loreto Seguel, will play an important role in the next business mission that Chile will carry out in Japan as a guest at Expo Osaka 2025, scheduled between May 12 and 14.

The international event will bring together various countries that will present their latest innovations and advances in different areas and economic activities. In this context, the objective of the Salmon Council is to highlight the importance of Chilean salmon in Japan, which is currently the second largest buyer of this product (after the United States), with 157 thousand tons exported in 2024, and an increase of 14% over the previous year.

The participation of the executive president will take place on Chile’s official day at the event, where a delegation led by President Gabriel Boric and composed of representatives of SOFOFA and various Chilean associations will meet with Japanese authorities, including the Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, together with economists and members of the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“Salmon is currently the country’s second most exported product and is present in more than 100 international markets. The world demands Chilean salmon and, as a country, we have the great opportunity to meet this demand by strengthening an industry that is fundamental to our growth strategy and that also promotes employment and productive linkages in three regions of the southern austral south”, commented Loreto Seguel, as leader of the association that brings together 5 important producing companies: AquaChile, Australis Seafoods, Cermaq, Mowi and Salmones Aysén.

The executive added that “participating in Expo Osaka allows us to strengthen ties with the second largest buyer of Chilean salmon and also to position ourselves in new markets. Today we are in 100, but we can reach many more if we consider that salmon is a key protein in a world facing growing food security challenges. Chilean salmon farming is not just an industry, it is an opportunity to show the world Chile’s development potential”.
