Don't miss the opportunity to participate in the largest aquaculture event in the Southern Hemisphere!
The company will be part of an international panel organized by the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), within the framework of Aquasur, where it will showcase its main advances and challenges in the circular economy in the Reverse Pitch space.
Blumar, a leading Chilean fishing and salmon farming company, will participate in the next edition of Aquasur, the main aquaculture industry event in the Southern Hemisphere, to be held in the city of Puerto Montt, in the Los Lagos Region. The company will arrive at the exhibition with a focus on innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainability—strategic pillars that form part of its value creation model.
With over 75 years of history linked to the sea, Blumar has developed a vertically integrated model that encompasses everything from the selective harvesting of fishery resources such as Chilean jack mackerel to the production of Atlantic salmon in southern Chile. It currently has 55 production assets, 32 operating fish farms, 8 operational vessels, processing plants for human consumption and fishmeal and fish oil, as well as its own fish hatchery, which allows it to ensure traceability, quality, and high sanitary standards throughout its entire production chain.
At Aquasur, the company will showcase its focus on efficiency and continuous improvement, highlighting initiatives aimed at optimizing resource use, waste management, reducing its carbon footprint, and strengthening the circular economy.
One of the highlights of its participation will be the presentation by Esteban Ramírez, Technical Manager for Salmon, and Felipe Infante, Operations Manager for Salmon, in the “Reverse Pitch – Circular Economy Challenges” session. In this session, Blumar will address challenges related to the valorization of byproducts, optimizing energy consumption in fish farms and processing plants, efficient water resource management, and reducing losses in the production chain. The presentation will seek to initiate a technical dialogue with technology providers, startups, and solution developers, fostering direct collaboration to accelerate the implementation of improvements with measurable impact.
In addition to its technical participation, Blumar will also be present at strategic dialogue sessions within the sector. The company’s general manager, Gerardo Balbontín, will participate in a panel organized by the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI), which will address the global challenges facing salmon farming in terms of sustainability, transparency, and international standards.
“Today, the industry faces the challenge of growing responsibly, incorporating innovation, greater efficiency, and increasingly demanding sustainability standards. Forums like Aquasur and the collaborative work promoted by GSI are fundamental to advancing concrete solutions, strengthening trust, and positioning Chile as a key player in global seafood production,” Balbontín stated.
