Don't miss the opportunity to participate in the largest aquaculture event in the Southern Hemisphere!
The process is open from January 5 to February 6, and seeks to recognize initiatives that improve the quality of life of farmed fish.
With the aim of promoting more sustainable salmon farming, Salmonexpert officially launched the second edition of the “Happy Salmon” Animal Welfare Award, which will be presented in March at Aquasur, the most important aquaculture exhibition in this hemisphere.
This initiative seeks to recognize companies, projects, or technologies that contribute to improving the quality of life of farmed fish, thus reinforcing the importance of highlighting science-based solutions, moving toward better production results and more responsible practices.
Applications
The call for entries seeks to highlight technologies, processes, or projects that are aligned with the current challenges facing the industry, with a long-term vision. In the call for entries, Salmonexpert emphasizes that applicants must reflect values such as productive sustainability, ethics, and the social legitimacy of salmon farming in the activities of companies, projects, or technologies developed by Chilean or foreign legal entities.
Applications for the competition are open from Monday, January 5, until February 6. The application guidelines are available here, and those who wish to apply can do so via the following link.
Details
The proposed solutions will be evaluated based on the diagnosis of the problem to be solved, their applicability, distinguishing factors, incorporated technology, level of investment, and results obtained. In addition, their impact on job creation and concrete contribution to improving production standards will be evaluated.
Five of these will be selected for a first stage in which they will be able to publicize their proposals in the March edition of Salmonexpert magazine, which will be distributed at Aquasur 2026. Then, three finalists will move on to a second stage where they will each present their initiatives at the awards ceremony, when the winning proposal will be announced.
The evaluation will be carried out by a jury made up of professionals linked to academia, industry, and sustainability. These are Dr. José Manuel Yáñez, dean of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences at the University of Chile; Dr. Hernán Cañón, animal welfare expert and academic at UDLA; Marcelo Imilan, technical manager at Cermaq; Katherine Martínez, animal welfare advisor at Asvet; Paula Medina, CEO of MetroCiencia; Gian Paul Ricapito, general manager of Salmonexpert; and Carola Fuentes, general manager of FISA.
A recognition in line with the times
The Happy Salmon Award consists of an advertising plan on Salmonexpert’s various platforms during 2026, and an official award presented at Aquasur 2026. The award recognizes and promotes the visibility and scalability of innovative solutions, in line with the main objective of the largest aquaculture exhibition in the southern hemisphere.
