The meeting, held in Puerto Montt, had a record attendance and reaffirmed the public-private commitment to sustainable development and technological innovation in the sector.

With 600 guests in attendance, including leaders from the aquaculture world, ambassadors, authorities, and representatives from companies in the sector, the traditional Aquasur Night was held at the City-Port Linkage Center of the Puerto Montt Port Authority (Empormontt). The event provided an opportunity to highlight the progress, challenges, and projections of the national and international aquaculture industry within the framework of the upcoming AquaSur 2026, the most important trade fair in the Southern Hemisphere.

Francisco Sotomayor, CEO of GL events Chile and executive director of Fisa, the company organizing the fair, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the event’s sustained growth: “In just the first two days of this edition, we have received 21,721 visitors, a figure that far exceeds the 15,024 registered during the same period in 2024”.

During the ceremony, a message from the Minister of Economy, Daniel Mas, was shown, in which he reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening and sustainably developing the sector. “Salmon farming is a driving force for Chile’s economy. From the Ministry of Economy, we will reaffirm our commitment to a facilitating government that streamlines permit processing and promotes global competitiveness,” the Secretary of State said in his address to the attendees.

The Minister of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, Ximena Lincolao, attended the event in person, praising the industry’s collaborative spirit. “I want to congratulate you on this great celebration of aquaculture. We will be here in Puerto Montt and throughout the region, supporting all your objectives and promoting innovation in this strategic sector”, she stated.

The Mayor of Puerto Montt, Rodrigo Wainraihgt, highlighted the region’s leadership in aquaculture development and innovation. “We have launched the Salmon 2050 Plan, which is already impacting the entire southern macrozone, from Los Lagos to Magallanes. This is a concrete example of the collaborative work between the public, private, academic, and civil society sectors. It demonstrates that we, too, can promote public policies that make a difference from the regions”, he affirmed.

The Aquasur Night thus consolidated its role as a key meeting point for dialogue, projection and collaboration among the main players in global aquaculture, anticipating new opportunities and challenges for the industry in the coming years.
