On 29 and 30 March 2023, the first version of AquaSur Tech will be held in Punta Arenas, the only fair of technological solutions oriented to the sustainability of salmon farming. At the meeting, visitors will be able to visit more than 30 exhibiting companies, where they will learn about technological solutions for the industry and will be able to register in an open industry space. In parallel, the Transformational Aquaculture Seminar will be held, with the participation of more than 30 speakers from the public, private and academic sectors. As a strategic partner of the aquaculture industry, CMPC is participating as main sponsor of the event. The company not only seeks to provide integral packaging solutions based on natural fibres, but also to bring its customers closer to the industry’s advances in sustainability and innovation. “The volatility of the context that characterises the post-pandemic period requires the ability to make decisions in an agile way and the information we have to do so is key. Gathering good quality data is an attribute that high-performing teams achieve and that is expressed in the decisions they make. Choosing a key partner for each strategic decision is vital. For us, it is not enough to be just a supplier, we have to be obsessed with our customers’ needs. From packaging we can contribute to their goals of reliability, competitiveness, sustainability and innovation. The choice of packaging is one more focus of differentiation and allows us to segment the leading companies from the followers”, declares Diego Cerboni Filippi, Commercial Manager of CMPC, the only company in the corrugated cardboard packaging segment with more than one production plant in Chile, and an exclusive plant for the salmon industry located in Osorno. He also states that “as a salmon industry, we must expect changes in the legislation of the destination markets, referring to the sustainability of the products and inputs used in the production process. What will be the next demand for Chilean salmon from our consumers? Circularity of inputs is definitely one of them, not only because of compliance with laws, but also because of the importance for the end user. On the positive side, there is a world of advances that we can embrace. Just to name a few of the innovations we are testing, using recycled fibres in the paper manufacturing process, from sludge from other production processes to textile fabrics”. AquaSur Tech will be held at the Dreams Hotel in Punta Arenas, and is the prelude to AquaSur 2024, whose focus is to advance the UN’s blue transformation proposal for 2030, where aquaculture is projected as a relevant activity in global food security and which has important challenges to ensure the sustainability of the ecosystems in which it is inserted.
